Polk County Landfill Solid Waste is the county landfill serving Auburndale and nearby communities, located at 7425 De Castro Rd in the Winter Haven area. Both residential drivers and commercial haulers use this spot; it’s the type of place where loads end up being buried rather than recycled or processed further.
The site is large and industrial - expect to see long lines of trucks, heavy equipment moving dirt, and tall finished berms and active cells. There’s an entrance booth and a weigh scale, so vehicles pull up to get checked and then usually head back to the scale after dumping since tipping fees are charged by weight. In Florida it’s common for landfills to have separate areas for yard waste and special hurricane-debris procedures, so parts of the yard may look busy or cordoned off after storms. The surface can be dusty, and turning into the site looks like entering a working construction zone rather than a tidy recycling center.

- Plan for delays on weekends, spring cleanup season, and after big storms - backups are common and traffic can be slow.
- Expect to stop at a scale when entering and again when leaving; tipping fees are calculated by weight so lightening the load won’t lower the number of stops.
- Secure and tarpaulin any loose material before driving in to prevent spillage on the roadway, and keep an eye out for heavy equipment and truck traffic while maneuvering around the site.
