North Central Landfill on Environmental Loop South is the big county dump outside Winter Haven where trucks, landscapers, and folks with bulky trash go to bury the stuff that can't be recycled. It’s the final stop for loads that need to be disposed of rather than dropped at a curb. Neighbors use it for oversized cleanouts, commercial hauls, and anything that doesn’t belong at a household hazardous waste event.
Drive up to an entrance booth and then over a vehicle scale - they charge by weight, so expect to be weighed in and again when you leave. After the scale there’s a route to the active tipping area where trucks dump into the working face; the site is large, with heavy equipment, dirt mounds, and a lot of space to manoeuvre. Lines can back up on weekends, during spring cleanups, and when people are clearing before or after hurricanes, so plan for delays. Household hazardous materials are usually handled through county collection events rather than at the landfill itself.
