Hernando County Landfill

14450 Landfill Rd, Brooksville, FL 34614

Hernando County Landfill is the county dump out on Landfill Rd that both residents and haulers use to drop off trash and large items. Located just off the main road into Brooksville, it’s the place where material ends up being buried rather than recycled or processed.

There’s a scale house at the entrance-vehicles stop in, get weighed, and usually stop again leaving so tipping fees are based on weight. The site is large and has the look of active earth-moving: long paved drives, big piles, and heavy equipment moving about. Pull up to the booth, follow the flow of traffic past recycling and yard waste areas if marked, then drive to the working face or pit where attendants direct where to dump. Lines form on weekends and during storm cleanup, so expect short delays and slower-moving trucks.

Before You Go

  • Secure loads with a tarp or straps; loose material that blows out will slow everyone down and make cleanup necessary.
  • Plan for extra time on weekends and after storms-backup is common and large commercial trucks can cause slowdowns.
  • Know which lane the scale uses and be ready to stop for weighing in and out; that’s how tipping fees are calculated.
