Fort Meade Landfill

3400 US Hwy 17 North, Fort Meade, FL 33841

Fort Meade Landfill is the county landfill on US 17 just north of town, used by residents and haulers alike for final disposal of trash. The site handles large volumes-this is where material gets buried rather than processed or transferred. Neighbors, landscapers, and small commercial trucks all show up here when they need to get rid of bulk loads.

There’s a scale near the entrance and tipping fees are charged by weight, so vehicles are typically weighed coming in and again on the way out. Drive up to the entrance booth first, then follow signs or attendants toward the active cell or dumping area; expect to back up to an open area to unload. The property is large with compacted dirt roads and visible landfill cells or mounds; truck traffic and heavy equipment are common. Lines build on weekends and during storm cleanup periods, and yard waste areas are often separate from general trash at Florida sites.

Before You Go

  • Secure loads well with tarps or straps-loose debris will slow unloading and can be a safety hazard for other vehicles.
  • Bring a photo ID and any required county paperwork or vehicle information that proves residency or account status, since many landfills check before letting vehicles in.
  • Avoid the busiest times by coming early on weekdays when possible; hurricane season and spring cleanup can create long waits.
