Citrus County Central Landfill in Lecanto is the county landfill where most local trash ends up - pickups, trailers and commercial haulers use it. Located at 230 W. Gulf to Lake Highway, it’s the big open site outside town for burying what can’t be recycled or reused.
Drive in to the entrance and there’s a booth and a scale; tipping fees are typically charged by weight so expect to stop for weighing. The place is large - long piles of compacted refuse, front-end loaders and compactors working, and dusty lanes when it’s dry. Commercial trucks mix with residential pickups, so plan for some traffic, especially on weekends and during spring cleanup or hurricane-prep surges.
