(352) 343-3776Astor Transfer Station is the small county transfer point out on Astor Transfer Station Rd where locals drop off household and yard loads to be compacted and hauled to a landfill elsewhere. Neighbors use it when hauling more than the curbside bin or when the dumpster at home is full. It feels like a working site rather than a public park-trucks, compactors and piles of material around the bays.
Drive up to a single entrance with a small booth and pull-up lanes; there's a scale you cross in and usually another stop on the way out since charges are by weight. Vehicles tip or unload into open bays or roll-off areas and forklifts or compactors handle the bulk material behind the scenes. There’s typically a separate area for yard waste and vegetative piles, so don’t be surprised if green waste is segregated to one side. Weekends and after storm events can be busy, and the site itself is dusty and noisy-wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
