Transfer Station

Kent Transfer Station

38 Maple St, Kent, CT 06757, United States

Small town transfer station used by Kent residents for curbside overflow and DIY drop-offs. Located right on Maple Street, it's the spot locals use when a pickup or bag of trash won't fit at the curb. Connecticut doesn't have active landfills, so this is where loads get compacted and sent elsewhere.

Drive up to a small entrance booth where attendants usually direct traffic; there’s a scale you’ll cross before and after unloading, so expect to stop twice. The site feels more like a working yard than a park - piles, compactors and roll-off containers are visible from the driveway. Recycling bins are typically lined up off to one side, with general trash going into large pits or compactors. Weekends and spring cleanup days can get backed up, so lines are common then.

Before You Go

  • Have any town permit or sticker handy if Kent requires one - many Connecticut towns do, and being able to show it speeds things up.
  • Load vehicles so trash can be unloaded quickly: tarps off, tailgate down, and heavier items accessible first to avoid blocking the line.
  • Arrive early on weekdays or plan for delays on Saturday; bring gloves and a broom for stray debris when unloading into shared containers.
