Recycling Center

East Hartford Recycling Department

740 Main St, East Hartford, CT 06108

(860) 291-7363

Small municipal recycling center used by East Hartford residents for common curbside-style recyclables and occasional bulky items. Locals drop off cardboard, mixed containers, paper, and items from household cleanouts; some special programs for electronics or textiles may be available seasonally. It’s the place neighbors go when something won’t fit at the curb or needs a different drop-off than regular trash pickup.

Drive into the lot and slow down - there’s a small entrance area with a booth and a line of large recycling containers and bays. Signs and arrows point toward the various bins; expect to walk a short distance from your vehicle to get to the correct container. Loads are often sorted by material (paper, cardboard, bottles/cans, etc.), so have things separated or easy to separate. Weekends, especially spring cleanup times, tend to be busiest and maneuvering a truck or trailer can take a bit more time.

Before You Go

  • Break down and flatten boxes before loading - saves space and makes unloading quicker.
  • Use straps or a tarp for loose items so things don’t blow out while pulling up to the containers.
  • Bring gloves and a small hand truck or dolly for heavy or awkward items; it speeds up trips between vehicle and bin.
