Small town transfer station used by East Granby residents for household trash and recyclables; it’s the place where local trash gets compacted and sent elsewhere. Locals drop by when the town cleanup pile-up starts or when it’s easier than driving to a distant landfill.
Drive up to a small entrance area with an attendant booth and a scale - cars pull up, get checked, then move on to the drop-off pits. Loads are tipped and compacted into larger trucks that leave for out-of-state landfills, so don’t expect long-term storage of bulky items. Recycling containers are usually grouped near the side of the yard, while metal and brush piles sit separately. Weekends, especially in spring and fall, tend to be the busiest times so lines can form.
