Transfer Station

Derby Transfer Station

80 Pine St, Derby, CT 06418, United States

Small transfer station on Pine Street where Derby residents bring household trash and recyclables. Because Connecticut has no active landfills, loads are compacted here and then trucked out of state. Neighbors use it when they want to avoid a longer drive to a distant disposal site.

There’s an entrance booth at the driveway where vehicles usually pause, so have proof of residency or a town permit ready. After the booth, pull into a lane for unloading; expect concrete pads, roll-off containers and large compactors in the yard. Trucks come and go as loads are packed and hauled off, and lines can form on weekends and during spring cleanup season. Be prepared for some noise and diesel from big trucks while unloading.

Before You Go

  • Bring proof of residency or your town transfer-station permit-many Connecticut towns check this at the booth.
  • Separate obvious recyclables from trash before getting there; DEEP’s recycling rules are strict and sorted loads go through a lot faster.
  • Try to time visits for early weekday mornings or before the mid-morning weekend rush, secure open-bed loads with straps or a tarp, and bring gloves for lifting and moving items.
