Transfer Station

Cornwall Transfer Station

24 Furnace Brook Rd, Cornwall Bridge, CT 06754, United States

Small, no-frills transfer station used by Cornwall residents and nearby towns for dropping off household trash and recyclables. It’s the kind of place locals swing by when there’s too much for regular curbside pickup or for items that need to be taken somewhere. Expect a practical, workaday setup rather than anything fancy.

Drive up the access road to a small entrance booth and slow down for the scale area; trucks often line up before the weigh-in. Vehicles pull up to clearly marked bays or compacting pits where loads are tipped and compacted before being hauled out of state. Recycling containers are usually off to one side, and the site is mostly gravel or paved with industrial equipment around. Weekends and spring cleanup times tend to get busy, so there can be a line and some waiting.

Before You Go

  • Bring proof of residency or the town transfer station permit if Cornwall requires one-towns in Connecticut commonly ask for that.
  • Sort materials in the vehicle before getting out: bag trash separately from recyclables and have bulky items easy to lift for faster unloading.
  • Use a helper or straps for heavy or awkward items and wear sturdy shoes and gloves; the ground can be uneven and loading areas are industrial.
