City Of Meriden Transfer Station

298 Evansville Ave, Meriden, CT 06451

(203) 630-4018

Small municipal transfer station in Meriden that residents and contractors use to drop off household and construction debris before it gets trucked out of state. Located on Evansville Avenue, it handles local loads so no one has to drive to a far-off landfill. Expect a workmanlike, utilitarian place rather than a public park.

A gated entrance with an attendant booth and a scale where vehicles stop to be weighed. Vehicles are directed into bays or open tipping areas inside the lot, with large compactors and roll-off trucks moving material around. There are separate containers or areas for recyclables and for mixed trash, and piles of bulky items and brush are common on site. Lines form on weekends and during spring cleanup, so driving in and backing up to a bay can be part of the routine.

Before You Go

  • Bring whatever town permit or proof of residency is required for Meriden transfer station access; many Connecticut towns ask for this at the gate.
  • Load the truck or car so unloading is quick-loose items in the back and heavier stuff toward the cab-so workers can point to the right drop-off without rearranging everything.
  • Go during weekday mornings if possible; weekends, especially spring and fall cleanup days, are when the queue gets long and parking space is tighter.
