Transfer Station

Ashford Transfer Station

232 Upton Rd, Ashford, CT 06278, United States

Small transfer station in Ashford used by local residents to drop off household trash and recyclables. It’s the kind of place where loads get compacted and then hauled out of state, so many folks from town come here instead of driving to a distant landfill.

Drive up to an entrance booth and be prepared to slow down; many Connecticut transfer stations have a scale and towns often charge by weight, so there’s usually a second stop on the way out. The yard looks like a typical municipal site - concrete bays, a few large compactors and piles of material that get moved by loaders. Recycling drop-offs and bulk bays are usually set to the side of the main drive; follow the flow of traffic and watch for trucks moving in and out. Weekends and spring cleanup times tend to be the busiest, so lines and wait times can grow quickly.

Before You Go

  • Have proof of residency or any town permit handy - many towns require one to use the transfer station.
  • Secure and cover loose loads; wind can turn a truck bed into a mess before getting to the drop-off area.
  • Try a weekday morning if possible - shorter lines than weekend afternoons, especially during spring cleanouts.
