Yuma County Landfill

15738 County Rd 34, Eckley, CO 80727

(970) 359-2467

Yuma County Landfill is the county dump out by Eckley that folks from town and nearby farms use when their pickup won’t fit in the curbside can. It’s a working landfill - the place garbage gets buried - handling household drop-offs and larger commercial loads from around Yuma County. Don’t expect anything fancy; it’s a practical county facility rather than a recycle center or transfer station.

Drive up the gravel road to a small entrance booth and be prepared to pull forward onto a scale or weigh station area before driving into the tipping zones. The site stretches out with rolling dirt cells and compacted cover, so trucks and trailers are the common sight; bring a tarp or tie-downs if hauling loose material. There’s a clear flow for dropping loads - usually a spot to unload, then a route back past the scale - and tipping fees are charged, with the facility accepting commercial deliveries as well as residential loads. Weekends and spring clean-up times can get busy, and larger rigs will be moving around, so take care when backing up.

Before You Go

  • Bring a rope or straps to secure loose loads; wind and bumps can shift debris on country roads.
  • Have a rough estimate of how much you’re dumping so unloading goes quicker - many people stack items in the truck bed for a fast toss.
  • Give yourself extra time on weekend mornings or during seasonal clean-up, since lines and waiting for the scale can add 20–30 minutes.
