Yolo County Central Landfill

44090 Co Rd 28H, Woodland, CA 95776

(530) 666-8729

Yolo County Central Landfill is the large county landfill out on County Road 28H that locals and haulers use when nothing else will take a load. It’s the place commercial trucks bring big loads and homeowners drop off oversized junk. Expect a working, no-frills site rather than a tidy transfer station.

There’s a concrete scale near the entrance where trucks stop to be weighed and tipping fees are charged by weight, so most vehicles pass the scale twice. Drive past the booth to the dumping area and follow traffic cones and signage toward the active cells and cover piles; it’s mostly gravel and compacted earth. Recycling and organics drop-offs are usually grouped near one side, so loads get routed accordingly and fees can differ depending on what’s separated. Lines build up on weekend mornings and during spring cleanups, with large commercial rigs dominating the traffic at times.

Before You Go

  • Secure loads with a tarp or tie-downs; loose debris can mean extra handling and slower unloading.
  • Aim for a weekday mid-morning if possible-less congestion than early weekend hours when homeowner traffic spikes.
  • Sort recyclables and yard organics as much as possible before driving in; California facilities often expect separation and that can affect how the load is handled and billed.
