Construction Debris: What You Can (and Can't) Take to the Dump
Renovating your home? Drywall, lumber, concrete, and roofing materials have different disposal rules than regular trash. Here's what to know.
Read more →Yolo County Central Landfill is the large county landfill out on County Road 28H that locals and haulers use when nothing else will take a load. It’s the place commercial trucks bring big loads and homeowners drop off oversized junk. Expect a working, no-frills site rather than a tidy transfer station.
There’s a concrete scale near the entrance where trucks stop to be weighed and tipping fees are charged by weight, so most vehicles pass the scale twice. Drive past the booth to the dumping area and follow traffic cones and signage toward the active cells and cover piles; it’s mostly gravel and compacted earth. Recycling and organics drop-offs are usually grouped near one side, so loads get routed accordingly and fees can differ depending on what’s separated. Lines build up on weekend mornings and during spring cleanups, with large commercial rigs dominating the traffic at times.
