West Miramar Sanitary Landfill is the big landfill off Convoy Street in San Diego where larger residential cleanouts and commercial haulers take their trash. The site accepts commercial loads and operates with a scale-tipping fees are charged by weight rather than by vehicle. It’s an industrial-feeling place, not a curbside drop-off, so show up ready for heavy-duty handling.
Drive in past an entrance booth and across a scale; vehicles are weighed and then directed to a dumping spot, so expect to stop more than once. The working area is mostly compacted dirt and large earth piles, with big open tipping zones rather than neat rows of bins. Trucks and pickups move to a drop point and back away afterward; larger rigs tend to maneuver close to the working face while smaller loads use paved pads. Weekends and spring-cleanup times get crowded, and because California requires more diversion, loads are often expected to be sorted for organics and recyclables beforehand.
