Out on Road 80 in Visalia, the Visalia Landfill is where residential pickups, trailers and contractor trucks drop off trash that will be buried. Locals and businesses both use it, so expect a mix of small vehicles and big rigs rolling through.
There’s an entrance booth and a scale - landfills charge by weight, so plan to stop again when you leave. Pull up to the attendant and they’ll point to the dumping area; the working face is an open, dusty space with heavy equipment moving loads around. The site is large and can get windy and messy, and lines form on weekends and during spring cleanup season. In California many facilities require organics to be separated from trash, so have yard debris and food scraps sorted if possible.
