Read more →Sunshine Canyon Landfill is the large municipal landfill up on Sunshine Canyon Road in Sylmar, serving both commercial haulers and residents with heavy loads. It handles big volumes for the Los Angeles area, so expect an industrial, no-frills facility rather than a neat drop-off center. The site is easy to spot from the road with high working faces and lots of truck traffic.
There’s an entrance booth and a scale; tipping fees are charged by weight so vehicles usually stop twice - in and out. The yard is expansive with roll-off trucks, compactors and large mounds of compacted material; keep an eye out for heavy equipment and follow the traffic flow. Small vehicles pull up to specific drop-off points while larger commercial rigs line up in separate lanes. Expect dust, noise and occasional backups, especially on weekends and during seasonal cleanups.
