Sunshine Canyon Landfill is the large regional dump up on San Fernando Road in Sylmar, used by residents with big loads and by commercial haulers. It's the place where trash gets buried, so expect industrial scale-big trucks, long faces of working trash, and a lot of activity. People from around L.A. bring bulky items and construction debris here.
There’s an entrance/scale area where vehicles stop to be weighed; tipping fees are charged by weight and commercial loads are handled separately from small residential drops. After the scale the road climbs toward the active tipping area, with trucks lining up to dump at the working face and bulldozers moving material around. The site looks like a noisy, dusty construction zone rather than a tidy transfer station, and wind can scatter debris if loads aren’t covered. Because this is in California, many customers already separate organics before coming in.
