Sun Street Transfer Station

Sun Street Transfer Station is the small transfer station in Salinas where neighborhood pickups and residents drop off household loads to be compacted and hauled out to a larger landfill. Locals bring everything from bagged household trash to boxes from a cleanup; it’s more convenient than driving out to a distant dump. The site sits at 139 Sun St and handles short local trips rather than long-haul disposal.

Pull up to an entrance booth and lanes where vehicles line up; the layout feels industrial with concrete bays and large trucks moving through. There’s a tipping area and big compactors or transfer trailers nearby-loads get crushed and loaded onto larger trucks to go elsewhere. Expect typical transfer-station sights and sounds: backing beeps, piles of material, and some dust, especially on dry days. Weekends and seasonal cleanup times usually have the longest lines.
