Scholl Canyon Sanitary Landfill

Scholl Canyon Sanitary Landfill, 3001 Scholl Canyon Road, Glendale, 91206, California

Scholl Canyon Sanitary Landfill is Glendale’s municipal landfill on Scholl Canyon Road, where contractors, landscapers and residents bring big loads that don’t fit in curbside bins. Most people end up here for large cleanouts or commercial hauls. It’s a working landfill - garbage is buried in cells rather than processed like at a recycling center.

Drive up to an entrance booth and a scale; vehicles are weighed and charged by weight, so plan on stopping at the scale on the way in and again on the way out. After the booth, traffic is routed toward the active tipping area with dirt ramps, heavy equipment and visible landfill slopes - it looks industrial and can be dusty. Commercial haulers use the site regularly and are billed differently than residential drop-offs. Don’t expect a tidy transfer station vibe; think big trucks, graded piles and working machinery.

Before You Go

  • Avoid weekend afternoons and spring-cleanup times when possible - lines build up quickly at the booth and scale.
  • Remember loads are weighed and tipping fees are charged by weight; commercial loads are handled differently, so plan accordingly if hauling for business.
  • Secure everything with tarps and tie-downs, drive slowly on the dirt ramps, and keep clear of heavy equipment - dust and wind are common.
