San Clemente Island Landfill is the island landfill where trash gets buried and taken offsite by haulers. Locals and commercial drivers use it-it's a working, open dirt-and-gravel site at the junction of San Clemente Ridge Road and Reservoir Road.
Drive up to an entrance booth and a scale; landfills usually charge tipping fees by weight or by load, so expect a stop to be weighed. After the booth, follow the internal road out to the active dumping face where heavy equipment, berms and piles of cover soil are visible. Space at the drop-off can be tight, so vehicles often queue and take turns backing in. Weekends and spring clean-up bring the longest lines, so factor in extra time.
