(408) 262-1401Republic Services Newby Island Landfill is the big municipal landfill in Milpitas that handles large volumes of trash and commercial hauls. Neighbors, contractors, and haulers use it when material needs to be buried rather than recycled or composted. The site is clearly industrial - lots of truck traffic and mounded dirt - so expect a working facility vibe.
There’s a scale house at the entrance where vehicles stop to be weighed, so plan for a short hold while the truck is processed and charged by weight; expect to cross the scale twice, in and out. The yard has pavements for semi-trucks and delivery trucks; passenger trucks and trailers pull up to the tip-off area or follow staff directions to where loads are dumped. Recycling and transfer activity is nearby, but this location is primarily where materials get buried, so the working face and cover soil are visible. Lines form on weekends and during seasonal cleanups, so drivers often queue on Dixon Landing Road when it’s busy.
