Ox Mountain Sanitary Landfill

Ox Mountain Sanitary Landfill is the big municipal landfill just off San Mateo Road in Half Moon Bay, where residents, contractors, and commercial haulers bring loads that won't fit curbside. Trucks and pickups go here when something needs to be buried rather than recycled. The site is plainly a working landfill - large scale and not like a recycling center.

Drive up to an entrance booth and a scale - tipping fees are charged by weight, so expect to be weighed and stopped twice. The property is large with gravel lanes, compacted cells of cover soil and fill, and a clear tipping area where drivers pull up to drop loads. There are separate drop spots for materials like recyclables or organics near the front of the site, so having things sorted ahead of time helps. Weekends and spring cleanup times often have lines, especially for full pickups and commercial trucks.
