New Cuyama Transfer Station

CA-166, New Cuyama, CA 93254

New Cuyama Transfer Station is the small transfer station along CA-166 that locals use for household cleanups and ranch runoffs instead of driving to a distant landfill. It sees a steady trickle of pickups, trailers, and the occasional RV disposal load. The place is practical and unpretentious - the sort of spot people stop at between errands.

Pull up to a small entrance booth on the highway and wait to be waved through; there’s a scale, so expect to stop both on the way in and the way out. The yard is compact - concrete or dirt pads with large roll-off containers and a few spillover bins off to one side. Traffic moves in a single flow: check in at the booth, drive to the unloading area, then back over the scale. Weekends and seasonal cleanups can make lines form, so plan for a short wait if it’s busy.

Before You Go

  • Secure and cover loose loads before getting to the gate - wind can turn a quick trip into a mess on the highway.
  • Pre-sort what can be separated in the truck (metal, bulky items, recyclables) so unloading goes faster and keeps traffic moving.
  • Try for an early weekday visit if possible; mid-mornings and weekends are when lines are longest.
