City of Santa Cruz Sanitary Landfill on Dimeo Lane is the place Santa Cruz sends the stuff that can’t be diverted - the final burial spot for what’s left after recycling and composting. Homeowners with truckloads, landscapers and commercial haulers all show up here when other options won’t take the material.
Drive up to the entrance off 605 Dimeo Lane and there’s an entry booth and a large scale; tipping fees are calculated by weight so plan to stop again on the way out. The site is large and active, with heavy equipment moving and visible berms where material is compacted and covered. Posted signs and lanes guide where to unload, and there are separate spots nearby for recyclables and organics since California requires separation of certain materials. Weekends and spring-cleanup times tend to back up, so expect lines then.
