Avenal Regional Landfill on North Hydril Road is the local landfill where residential and commercial loads end up when trash can't be recycled. Neighbors, local haulers and farms use it - it's the final destination where waste is buried. It's not a transfer station or recycling center, so expect the typical landfill setup.
There’s an entrance booth and a scale on site, and tipping fees are charged by weight so expect to stop on the way out as well as in. Big trucks and small trailers share the lanes, with heavy equipment and compacted cells visible as you drive through; the work face is open and can be dusty. California rules mean some materials-like organics-often need to be separated, so have loads roughly sorted before pulling in. Lines build up on weekends and during seasonal cleanups, and the surface is gravel and dirt rather than paved in many spots.
