Johnson County Landfill

Co Rd 3311, Clarksville, AR 72830

(479) 754-3007

Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee is the regional landfill where people from around the area bring garbage and commercial loads for final disposal. Small haulers and homeowners alike use it when local drop-off sites won’t take large or mixed loads.

Drive up to a clearly marked entrance with a scale and an attendant booth; traffic will usually be directed where to stop. Loads are charged by weight, so expect to pass over a scale going in and again when leaving. The site is large, with open tipping areas and heavy machinery working the cells, so there’s space to maneuver but also places that require careful backing. Weekends and spring cleanup times often have delays, and larger commercial trucks are common alongside pickup trucks and trailers.

Before You Go

  • Secure and tarp loose material before arriving so nothing blows out while driving through the site.
  • Plan for extra time on weekends and during spring cleanup-lines and waiting for a scale can add 15–45 minutes.
  • Bring sturdy shoes and gloves and be ready to back into the tipping area; having a spotter helps when maneuvering around heavy equipment.
