Read more →City of Ft Smith Landfill is the city’s main landfill on the south side of Fort Smith at 5900 Commerce Rd. It’s where residential and commercial loads end up when hauling trash that won’t go to a transfer station. Expect a big, working site with heavy equipment and long driveways rather than a small drop-off pad.
Drive past an entrance booth and across a scale - most landfills charge by weight, so there’s usually a weigh-in and weigh-out. The site is large, with compacted cells and visible berms; trucks and loaders are moving around, so follow posted traffic flow and watch for blind spots. After weighing, vehicles are directed to the active disposal area to unload and then back across the scale. It’s not a neat transfer-station setup; plan for rougher surfaces and slower traffic inside the gate.
