Tubac Transfer Station sits just off I-19 Frontage Rd in Amado and is used mostly by locals and small haulers who don't want the longer trip to a distant landfill. It’s a working, no-frills spot where people drop off household junk, yard waste and the sort of stuff a pickup truck can carry. Expect practical, industrial surroundings rather than anything tidy or landscaped.
There’s a drive-in entrance with a small booth and usually a scale nearby, so plan for a short stop before and after unloading. Vehicles pull up to large concrete bays or roll-off containers where trash is compacted and loaded onto bigger trucks. The yard is mostly gravel and pavement with heavy truck traffic and dust; hearing engines and beeping backups is normal. Lines form at peak times, and maneuvering a trailer or long bed takes a bit of patience.
