Ironwood Municipal Solid Waste Landfill

12720 E. Hwy 287, Florence

520-868-8778

Small-town landfill just outside Florence that handles municipal solid waste for the area. People from households and local businesses use it when curbside pickup won’t cut it or for large cleanouts. It’s the kind of place where trucks come and go, and the desert setting is obvious.

Drive up to a single entrance with a check-in/scale booth visible from the road; vehicles are weighed so expect to stop twice. The site is open dirt and compacted cover material with working faces and piles in the distance, not a paved, tidy transfer station. Commercial loads are commonly accepted at municipal landfills and charges are generally handled as tipping fees based on weight. Weekends and spring cleanup times tend to be busier, and dust, sun and wind are part of the experience in Arizona’s dry climate.

Before You Go

  • Bring something to cover loose loads - wind and dust are constant; tarps and straps keep things from blowing off.
  • Have an idea how much you’re bringing since municipal landfills charge tipping fees by weight; that helps avoid surprises on the scale.
  • If towing a trailer, leave extra time for backing and maneuvering; the approach to the scale and dumping areas can be tight and dusty.
