Copper Mountain Landfill sits out on East County 12th Street in Wellton and is what locals use when the curbside pickup won’t take something or contractors need to dump loads. Neighbors bring everything from pickup-bed loads and yard debris to construction haul-offs. As a landfill it’s the final place material gets buried, and like other landfills there are tipping fees that usually differ for residential versus commercial deliveries.
There’s a gate/booth and a scale near the entrance, so expect to stop to be weighed and then stop again on the way out. Drive slowly on the dusty gravel road - big trucks and heavy equipment are moving around, and the working area is mostly compacted dirt mounds and open tipping faces. A few drop-off piles or bins are typically a short drive past the booth for things that can be separated out. Weekends and spring cleanup times fill up fast, so lines and trucks waiting are common.
