Copper Mountain Landfill

34853 East County 12th St., Wellton

928-785-3797

Copper Mountain Landfill is the municipal landfill out on County 12th Street that handles final disposal for Wellton and surrounding desert communities. Locals, landscapers, and haulers use it-everything ends up buried here rather than sorted. The site is typical of a regional landfill in Arizona’s dry climate: big, dusty, and built for heavy trucks.

There’s a booth and a drive-on scale at the entrance, so plan to stop twice - once in and once out - since tipping is usually charged by weight with minimums and separate commercial rates. Pull up to the booth, follow the flow of trucks, and then head to the working face where loads are emptied; the area is open, exposed, and can be windy with loose dirt and gravel. Recycling or drop-off bins, if present, sit off to the side near the entrance rather than mixed in with the tipping area. Expect a simple, utilitarian layout rather than paved courtyards or lots of signage.

Before You Go

  • Secure and tarp loads before getting on the road - desert winds blow loose debris everywhere and vehicles behind you will thank you.
  • Know that commercial trucks are accepted and billed differently than small residential loads, so have documentation or load info ready for the scale house.
  • Avoid peak weekend or spring-cleanup times if possible; lines form and wait times can grow, so bring water, shade, and extra time when dropping off larger loads.
