Transfer Station

City of Phoenix Transfer Station

3060 S 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009

(602) 262-7251

A working transfer station in Phoenix where local household and small commercial loads are dropped off, compacted, and loaded onto larger trucks for hauling to a landfill. Regular residents use it when a trip to a distant landfill would be too far or when clearing out a garage or yard.

Drive into a gated entrance with a small booth and a scale a short way in; loads are usually weighed so there’s a stop on the way out as well. Pull-ups to the tipping area are common - back in if hauling a trailer - and the site is mostly open concrete with large compacting equipment and transfer trailers visible. It’s a dusty, sun-exposed place in Arizona’s climate, so expect little shade and some grit on the ground. Lines grow on weekends and during spring-cleaning season, so there can be a wait to get to the drop-off point.

Before You Go

  • Try to arrive early on weekend mornings to avoid long queues.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and bring eye protection or a dust mask - it’s often dusty and sunny with limited shade.
  • Secure loads and have everything ready to unload before driving up; moving quickly through the drop area keeps the line moving.
