Northside Landfill is the big city dump out on 47th Avenue North that handles residential and commercial trash for much of Birmingham. Local haulers and folks cleaning out garages both end up here; it's the place trash gets buried rather than recycled or dropped at a convenience center.
Drive up to a single entrance where there's a weigh scale and an attendant booth close by - trucks stop in, get weighed, then head in to tip and come back across the scale. The site is large with active cells and visible earthwork; expect to see compactors, heavy equipment, and high berms of cover material. Traffic backs up on weekends and during spring cleanup, so be prepared to wait and to follow the directional signs once past the booth.
