Jefferson County Landfill No. 1 is the county landfill on Barber Boulevard in Gardendale, used by local residents and hauling trucks. It’s a large, working site where both household pickups and commercial vehicles turn up to unload.
There’s an entrance booth and a scale near the front, so expect to stop and be weighed as part of the process. Pull up in line at the booth, then follow directions to the active tipping area - big trucks and heavy equipment move around, and the ground is often gravel or mud depending on the weather. The site looks like a typical county dump: open faces, dirt piles, and loaders moving material around; plan for dust and truck traffic while you’re there.
