Hazardous Waste

CWM Emelle (Hazardous Waste Facility)

36964 Alabama Highway 17 North, Emelle, AL 35459

800-963-4776

CWM Emelle is the hazardous waste disposal facility out on Highway 17 that people from around Emelle and nearby counties use when they have industrial or household hazardous materials to get rid of. It’s a large, industrial site-not a neighborhood drop-off-so expect trucks and bigger rigs as much as cars with trailers. Locals go here when smaller county convenience centers won’t accept certain materials.

Drive up a gate area with an entrance booth and be prepared to pull up slowly for check-in; there’s usually a scale for vehicles either on the way in or out so stopping twice can happen. The site is fenced and spread out, with paved lanes leading to different disposal pads or container areas; signs or arrows mark where to go once into the compound. Expect an industrial look: metal buildings, concrete pads, rows of containers and heavy equipment moving around. Weekends and seasonal cleanup times typically bring more traffic and longer waits, so plan for queuing.

Before You Go

  • Secure loads well so nothing shifts on the drive; tarps and tie-downs help prevent loose materials from falling out during the trip.
  • Bring any paperwork or manifests that might be required by the generator or transport rules, and have ID handy in case it’s requested at the booth.
  • Use a vehicle and trailer rated for the load-smaller passenger cars can be awkward for bulky or heavy items-and leave extra time if traveling on a weekend or during spring cleanup season.
