City of Dothan Sanitary Landfill on Burkett Road is the municipal landfill where the city’s trash gets buried. Both residential drivers and commercial haulers use this site, so expect a mix of small trucks and larger roll-offs. It’s a working landfill - big, dusty, and very much about moving and burying material.
There’s typically an entrance booth and a weigh scale near the driveway; landfills commonly charge tipping fees by weight, so plan for an inbound and outbound stop. After the booth the road leads out to the active tipping area where loaders and compactors are usually moving - noise and dust are normal when machinery is running. The site looks like large dirt berms and piled cells rather than a tidy lot, and traffic flow is controlled by the drive lanes and dumping pads.
